Iraq Sense

Why I care? I grew up in Somers New York and graduated from its High School in 1985. I went to college in New York. I work in New York, live in New York, and believe in protecting us against terrorist actions.

Where was I when the towers fell? I was watching TV of the event with millions of other Americans. Just like many of them I was mad, I wanted justice, and I felt pain. When President Bush announced that we were going to get the people responsible for the towers I supported him, as did America, and most of the world community.

Common sense would have suggested that we attack the terrorist where they were located. We did. However, we also became distracted removing an evil man and dictator from a country with very low involvement in terrorist affairs. Those who know dictators in general know they do not tolerate other centers of power historically.

What's the problem? While we were distracted we lost our edge in fighting terrorism around the world. We lost money and focus for the security measures we needed at home. We lost sympathy and understanding in the world.

What next? Finally people in Congress and around the United States realized that our actions were no reaching our desired goals. We were not getting rid of terrorism in Iraq but creating more terrorist. We were not winning the war or creating a country we were policing a Civil War. So many said the common sense thing was to call the war and bring the troops home.

Sadly President Bush and his administration believe that we should increase our troop levels and commitment in Iraq. Why?

Imagine how much security we could buy for our ports, our infrastructure, our intelligence, and our future with the hundreds of billions of dollars we are now spending in vain.

Don't ever stop the fight against terrorism--we need that. Just stop the war that never helped us or honored those who died in the first place.
